WINN FM 98.9 is owned and operated by the Federation Media Group, a private company with over 50 shareholders. No one shareholder can hold more than ten percent of the company’s shares. This provision safeguards the company from the dominance of any single shareholder.
Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Michael King says WINNFM was conceived by a group of people at a millennium party while discussing the fourth estate- the importance of dynamic media in a vibrant democracy.
“ It was agreed that there was a dire need for a fair, balanced and responsible coverage of life in St.Kitts and Nevis and a community radio for everyone to express their views.” Mr. King said.
WINN FM’s objective is to face the issues squarely without shying away from controversy.
Director Charles Wilkin explained that WINN is an acronym for West Indies news Network that is the ultimate intention of the owners to reach a regional audience that includes the Leeward Islands, the Netherlands Antilles and the British and U.S Virgin Islands.
“ While WINN FM will seek as a responsible media organization to safeguard and develop the democratic right of free speech, we will endeavor to highlight and accentuate the positive things in our society, “ Mr. Wilkin promised.
Above all, we try to conform to our slogan of “MORE MUSIC, MORE TALK, MORE RADIO”.
