St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN); “Our Our Legacy, Nevis Culturama 43,” is the winning slogan for this year’s summer festival Culturama, happening in Nevis from July 27th to August 8.
The festival was launched on Wednesday (Apr 12), and Culturama Chairman and CEO Antonio “Abonaty” Liburd revealed the slate of activities as well as the 2017 Culturama Patron.
He said the Committee conducted an extensive search across the various areas of Culture on the island before selecting Joseph “Joe” Claxton, a folklore dancer.
Claxton has represented Nevis at CARIFESTA on two occasions, and according to the Culturama Chairman, he was selected for his contribution and commitment to the development of folklore on Nevis.
The events planned for Culturama 43 include the 30th anniversary of Talented Youth Pageant, Bacchanal Corner, the Junior Kaiso Competition, the Power and Groovy Soca Monarch Competition, an Aquatic extravaganza, Poets in the square, a steel pan and masquerade competition, the Department of Agriculture fruit festival, Illusion all-inclusive fete, the annual Food and Art fair, Summer Escape 2, Miss Culture Swimwear Pageant, the Senior Kaiso Competition, International drag race meet, Miss Culture Queen Pageant, DJ Competition, Emancipation J’ouvert jam, Herberts Beach affair, adult and junior Street parades, and Last Lap.
Chairman Liburd also announced that this year the Opening of Culturama is moving back to the cultural village so that booth operators would have a better opportunity to make more money.
Mr. Liburd also announced that the Committee is looking at raising the cash prizes for contest winners this year, and an announcement will soon be made in that regard.
