St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Husband and wife Dwayne Martin and Carla Hendrickson of Harbour View were both sentenced to three years imprisonment for unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition according to reports reaching WINN FM 98.9 on Friday afternoon (May 12).
The gun and ammunition, a glock semi-automatic gun and 13 rounds of ammunition, were discovered in May 2014 when police executed a warrant to search the couple's home.
The couple was found guilty by unanimous verdict in June 2016 and was to have been sentenced the next month, however there were several adjournments including their defense attorney Dr. Henry Browne QC challenging then new resident high court judge Justice Trevor Warde QC's authority to pass sentencing as he was not the sitting judge for the trial.
Hendrickson and Martin are parents to two young children, a factor Justice Warde QC took into consideration when deciding sentencing. He also considered the remorse expressed by the pair as was stated in the social inquiry report.
