St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN); The soca fans showed up and showed out Thursday for the opening night of the 2017 St. Kitts Music Festival, jumping and waving right down past 4am.
Though the crowd was not as large as last year’s patrons brought the energy, creating the fete-type vibe the Committee had envisioned.
Although Voice, Lyrikal, Teddyson John, and Square One with Allison Hinds put out top notched performances, the night belonged to the local Soca acts, especially Rukas, Shanna, and the bands Small Axe and GrandMasters.
Head of the Artiste selection committee Jonel Powel said Thursday night’s show was hugely successful.
“For those of you who were at the concert last night, you know the show “sell off” as we say in St. Kitts so thank you to all who came out. Last night was spectacular; reminiscent I am told of the days of old at the Fort Thomas Hotel grounds where the Music Festival Started out twenty one years ago.”
Night two of this year’s festival will feature Goo Dolls, Scratchi Bamma, Ras Idren, Hi Light, Third World, Mavado and Shabba Ranks.
Speaking at a Music Festival artiste press conference Friday morning, Powell said with the level of talent for Friday night’s (June 23) lineup, fans can expect great performances.
“I must say it’s a pleasure to see all of the hard work that the St. Kitts Music Festival Committee has put in over the last year and to see the level of acts, the quality of artistes we have for tonight s phenomenal.
“The uniqueness s of the St. Kitts Music Festival is the diversity we bring; we’re not a genre specific music festival.
“Just want to say welcome to all the acts and let’s continue to the party.”
The 21st St. Kitts Music Festival continue tonight (June 23) starting at 8pm at Warner Park Stadium.
