St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN); After a brief investigation Police have charged one of their own with rape.

On Thursday Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley confirmed rumors that a police officer had been accused of sexually assaulting a female. The incident is alleged to have taken place on Sunday, June 18.

WINN FM understands the alleged victim is said to be a teenager, but is not a juvenile.

The officer was put on closed arrest during the investigation.

On Friday police informed that the officer had been charged as a result of the findings of the investigation.

The officer has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the case.

The name of the accused and victim cannot be published as the matter is sexual in nature.

The Force continues to struggle with its image against the backdrop of several officers being charged with serious offenses, including robbery and smuggling drugs into the prison.

Just six months prior in December 2016, a Police Constable and a Defense Force soldier were also charged with rape on the island of Nevis.

It is sad when the character and moral of the Police force have to be tainted because of the acts of a few immoral persons. I trust that society will continue to believe in the Force as a whole and remember that there are far more good ones than bad ones in the ranks. Pray for our Federation Finest.
