Is the opposition weak?

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Opposition Member of Parliament Eugene Hamilton is responding to remarks that the opposition in St. Kitts and Nevis is weak and is not performing the job they were paid to do. A caller to WINN FM Inside the News on Saturday expressed these sentiments, arguing that the Public Accounts Committee that has representation from members of the opposition has not been active for 17 years. “Look at the schedule at the constitution and you will see the amount of work designated to elected officials in parliament that has not been done in St. Kitts in over 28 years. When the opposition lose, they just decide to campaign,” the caller said. “The opposition is so week, all they do is campaign.”

Mr. Hamilton refuted the arguments claiming he raised the issue about the Public Accounts Committee not being formed. He also said he wrote to the Prime Minister shortly after he was sworn in, requesting his assistance to learn about the inner workings of the government departments. He said the Prime Minister asked him to direct his questions to the Clerk of the House.

Hamilton sounds like an idiot. Will any Prime Minister place an Opposition Parliamentarian to meddle in the operations of his government when it is clear that Opposition MP has no interest in doing the meagre jobof simply attending parliament, when it is called 8 to 10 times per year?
