High Court to decide on motion matter Dec. 16

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The High Court will decide on December 16 on the strike out application filed by the government side on the no confidence matter. It will also determine whether it has jurisdiction to tell parliament when the motion of no confidence should be heard in the national assembly. A high court judge made this decision Friday in a closed door hearing of the no confidence matter. 

The opposition earlier this year brought the matter of the motion of no confidence to the court, in an attempt to get the court to instruct parliament to hear promptly the motion of no confidence filed since December 2012. The opposition withdrew the matter, but the speaker of the house Curtis Martin had it back in the court. The government side is seeking to set aside the opposition’s discontinuance which has found favor with the elected opposition parliamentarians. They say they are taking the necessary steps to try to ensure that the motion is tabled in parliament and putting the matter back in court is likely to achieve that objective more quickly.
