Police Credit Union celebrates 30 years

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Monday January 20th marked the 30th anniversary of the Police Cooperative Credit Union in St. Kitts.  Matthew McGuire, President of the Police Cooperative Credit Union said the organization was started by former commissioner of police Stanley V. Franks and co-founder Felix Hodge, former deputy commissioner.

Mr. McGuire said Mr. Franks saw the need for the credit union due to the financial constraints facing police officers. “Over the years the Police Cooperative Credit union has grown in its membership and also in its assets,” McGuire noted. The credit union has just over 1000 members, with over 600 of them being active. He noted that the credit union started with assets valued at $30,000 in 1984 to over $30 million in 2014.

Mr. McGuire says he believes the accomplishment of the credit union is not only in the increase of its membership and value of assets, but its affiliation. The Police Credit Union is a member of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions and the World Council of Credit Union. These affiliations, McGuire said strengthens the Police Credit Union’s support to its members. Manager of the police credit union Mario Wigley listed some of events to mark the 30th anniversary. These include a domino tournament this Thursday night and a banquet and dance next month.
