Harris: PM is Disrespecting Constitution

Dr. Timothy Harris, Former Senior Government Minister, now Leader of the Opposition partnership Team Unity

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN):  St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas anticipates being in power for a while yet, and is indicating the kind of attention his government will pay to matters like renewable energy.

The opposition alliance Team Unity continues to insist meanwhile, that Dr. Douglas is doing a disservice to law and order in the country, by continuing to ignoring the now 16 month old Motion of No Confidence.

Team Unity leader Dr. Timothy Harris took aim at the prime minister at the opposition grouping’s public meeting last Friday.

"If the man cared about the country more than he cared for himself, the law is clear, the democratic norms are clear, the precedents are everywhere.  Whenever you have a Motion of No Confidence, that must come first," Dr. Harris said, speaking on the Opposition partnership's Team Unity platform Friday night.

"The people of St. Kitts and Nevis at home and abroad, must make a determination.  Either we want the rule of law and the supremacy of the our Constitution, or we want the rule of one man, and we are saying we want law and order.  We want law and order, and law and order we must get in St. Kitts and Nevis."

Dr. Harris has accused his former boss of disrespecting the country’s constitution.

"He has devalued and demeaned the office of Prime Minister.  He has disrespected the Constitution, and he believes that he can use money to buy out people, but he can't buy us out."

Dr. Douglas’ standard response from such  criticism from his former  colleague turned arch rival, is that Dr. Harris is hungry for power and wants to be Prime Minister at any cost.
