Issues at Old Road Fisheries complex to be addressed

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): A public tender will open on Friday this week for upgrade work on the fisheries complex in Old Road. The complex is vital to the work of fishers in Old Road, a traditional fishing town. Since the complex was built, fishermen have been complaining about certain defects at the facility which make it difficult to use it efficiently. Mark Williams, the Director of the Marine Resources Department addressed these issues in an interview with WINN including issues faced by fishermen in the Newtown area of Basseterre.

There are about 728 fishers registered in St. Kitts and Nevis, majority of whom are from Dieppe Bay, Sandy Point, Old Road and Basseterre. Meanwhile, Mr. Williams is appealing to fishers who have not yet registered their boat to do so as the deadline has already passed.
