New Cabinet Sworn-In, Patrice Nisbett Appointed Attorney General
LISTEN
St. Kitts & Nevis – February 7, 2010: In a three and a half hour ceremony on Sunday evening at the Warner Park cricket stadium, the Cabinet of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis was sworn in and the various portfolios conferred on the respective ministers. The highlight of the evening was the swearing-in of NRP parliamentarian for Nevis 11, Patrice Nisbett as Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs. This is the first time a Nevis representative has been appointed to the federal cabinet, even though the St. Kitts party already had a majority to form the government.
Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas now holds the Finance portfolio previously held by Dr. Timothy Harris, as well as the portfolios of sustainable development and human resource development. Sam Condor remains as Deputy Prime Minister and now has Foreign affairs, National Security, Labour, Immigration and Social Security as his other portfolios. Dr. Timothy Harris Minister is now senior minister, minister of international trade, industry, commerce, agriculture, consumer affairs and constituency empowerment and marine resources.
Dr. Earl Asim Martin remains with Public Works and is also minister of Housing, Energy and Utilities. Marcella Liburd, the only woman minister in the cabinet was allotted Health, Social Services, Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs. Newcomer Glen Phillip was conferred Youth Empowerment, Sports, Information Technology and Telecommunications and Post portfolios.  In addition to the information portfolio allotted to him in the previous administration, Senator Nigel Carty is now also the minister of education. Senator Ricky Skerritt is minister of Tourism and International Transport.
In his national address at the ceremony, Prime Minister Denzil Douglas, among other things, announced the appointment of Dr. Norgen Wilson as advisor to the Ministry of National Security and Immigration and Cedric Liburd as advisor to the Ministry of Tourism. Both were Labour party candidates who lost their seat in the January 25th general elections. The prime minister also appointed former Attorney General, Dennis Merchant as general counsel to the federal government.

I have never heard Patrice Nisbett make a real meaningful contribution in parliament. Every time he makes a presentation it is shallow and sometimes laughable. Can anyone pinpoint a very constructive or meaningful contribution that the newly AG has made recently in parliament? This appointment is all about politics.
Observant

How could Dr. Norgen Wilson lose his seat, as your article states, if he was never previously elected? Come on WINN-FM! Shoddy Journalism!

Be careful with ur comments please. What has Justice Belle done that he should be sent packing??

i think jazz probably beleive a dictator perform deeds/acts that only affect people that donot carry their his flag. It is one authorise system legally presented.we all have to live with it.

Political Kid- all due respect but politics is not about personalities but about putting the policies that work for the people. I think Tim has a DR. in administration not finance majoring in Accounting. However, he has spoken on the National Debt which angered the PM.
Still confused

I would really like to know why none of the elected doctors of the labour party holds the health portfolio? And since we want to give non-elected members of the labour party a do of the peoples money, why not make Dr.Norgen Wilson adviser to health and Mr.Cedric Liburd adviser to agriculture: knowing that both of them have expertise in those particular fields, Dr. Wilson a doctor and Mr. Liburd past portfolio was agriculture. Just a semi-illiterate thought, That makes more common sense.

These appoinments represent a blatant disregard for the public spending purse. What our citizens got to realise that too much chiefs can only mean when the trimming start it will be from the bottom up.So who is gonna feel the pinch?.... the answer is the poor man of course.
Stuart

This is really an "inclusive" Cabinet....in addition to the SKNLP members...you have one NRP member....and also a PAM standing on the far left side! Nothing lasts forever Dr. Douglas!

The prime minister should have never removed finance from Tim because it was under his watch that the national debt spiral upward. we are very bless to have in government a minister with a Dr in Finance and we are not make use of him. I love my PM but I hate his policies.
Political kid

After 15 years in office we now have Constituency Empowerment when that should have been the hallmark. What does that portfolio mean anyway? We have a government giving us things we don't know about and don't need. And by the way, who or what is a senior minister?
Confused
