Charlestown, Nevis (Curtis Morton): As Coach Stuart Williams continues his very intense program with the young cricketers on Nevis, they seem to have developed a mind set for great things in the future. NTV Sports conducted an exclusive interview with three of the players on Friday 14th December as they trained under the watchful eyes of the Coach, at the ET Willet Park.
The three players: Clydre Smithen; Kezron Archibald and Theron Bussue all seem intent on making it to the West Indies team and mentioned the name Kieran Powell as someone to emulate. It was obvious from their responses that they were not only proud of the achievements of the Nevisian and West Indies star player but they all believe that in the not too distant future, they too will be wearing the coveted maroon colours themselves.
Theron Bussue noted that he started as a left arm leg spinner but stated that his batting has come a long way and he is now focusing on the two disciplines of the game. Clydre Smithen knows that his batting is his main asset but will not leave his bowling behind. He believes that his lively medium pacers will always be a significant part of his game.
Kezron Archibald for his part is an elegant left handed batsman but knows that his more that lively spells with the new ball wil be an equal part of his game. Clydre plays for local club Cotton Ground Pioneers and would have mentors like Derrick Parry and Frank Monzac. Kezron still maintains that his first love is with the Brown Hill team and would have in that camp, players of the caliber of Bernette ‘Nutsy’ Thompson and Leeward islands record holder, Harvey Stapleton. Theron is settled with the Highlights Int team and has in that camp seasoned campaigners like Wendell Wallace; Virgil Browne and fellow villager, Winston Sutton. All three young men are looking towards making it into the Nevis senior team as early as next year and then take their game from there on the long journey to the West Indies team.
