St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): What started as mere bar talk eventually materialized into an exciting preparatory meet for Interprimary School champions, St.Thomas’ Primary School. Chesley Faro Davis indicated on Sunday that it started as a conversation between himself, Bassie and Duggin at a bar shop in Cotton Ground and they contemplated the idea of having the children at the St.Thomas’ Primary school properly prepared for the defence of their Interprimary championship. The idea was taken to the Headmistress and Teachers of the school and the parents also soon got on board.
The meet was held at the Cotton Ground Recreation Grounds on Sunday 17th March. The meet attracted quite a gathering as the parents of the school and other relatives of the athletes showed up to encourage the children. Coach Eddy Caines noted that the children were placed in the races to which they will be assigned on the big day on April 3rd. They competed in the 800; 400; 200; 1200; 4X100 and 4X400 meters. Interestingly the coach also noted that instead of allowing them to run the usual 100 meters, they were extended to 110 meters as a means of pushing them to the max.
The spectators also got involved and challenged each other to add to the entertainment. This included a male relay which saw chief organizer Marvin PIG Hamilton being left in the dust on the final leg and a scintillating run by Vera Herbert in the female relay when she received the baton ahead of her competition, waited for them and then beat them to the finish line. The big question at the end of the day was: ‘St.Thomas’ are you ready?’ The answer came back loud and clear: “Yes –we ready!’
