SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA PRAISES JACK WARNER

June 14, 2009 (Basseterre) - South African President Jacob Zuma says that his nation owes FIFA Vice President Jack Warner a debt of gratitude.
 
Warner arrived in South Africa on Sunday morning to attend the opening ceremony of the Confederations Cup.
The two-week Confederations Cup is being used as a warm-up event for next year's World Cup -- the first to be played on African soil.
The newly elected South African President personally welcomed the FIFA Vice President and his delegation to the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg.
 
President Zuma, praised Warner for his efforts in getting the 2010 FIFA World Cup to South Africa
 
"Without your efforts and personal intervention, none of this today would not have been possible in South Africa. South Africa owes you a debt of gratitude".
 
 
FIFA Officials have described the opening ceremony as a complete success
 
The ceremony was said to be colorful explosion of traditional African music, dance and song accompanied by the deafening cheers of thousands of fans blowing trumpets.
 
 
This is Warner’s second stop on the African Continent for the week,
 
On Friday the FIFA Vice President was in Nigeria to meet with the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr Goodluck Johnathan and several State Governors.
 
Warner , who chairs the FIFA Youth Committee, continues to monitor Nigeria  level of preparedness to host the U- 17 World Cup later this year 
 
 
During the last inspection of the African nation the FIFA Vice President did not hide his frustration over the level of progress made
 
However following this week’s meeting, Warner says he has accepted the guarantees from the Nigerian Head of State relative to security and safety for the FIFA U 17 World Cup later this year as well as guarantees for the completion of the selected venues.
 
Furthermore he gave Nigeria an additional 21 days to the 30 days that had been originally given to them for completion and pledged to return for a final inspection on July 26.
