St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Pumpkin is front and center of this year's Restaurant Week cooking challenge. The Department of Agriculture is again this year, coordinating the Challenge which is a precursor to Restaurant Week which is being hosted from the 13th to the 24th of July. Last year’s featured ingredient was the breadfruit.
The Pumpkin Challenge officially launched on Friday. Coordinator of the 2016 Pumpkin Challenge is Marketing Officer with the Agriculture Department Mr. Alphonso Clarke.
“The Pumpkin Challenge this year opens from the 8th to 22nd of April for registration. On the 2nd of May we will have the first set of preliminary judging so all persons are welcome to participate. At least three persons from the preliminary will advance to the final round which will be held on May 31.”
The competition is open to everyone, and the only requirement is that pumpkin be the main ingredient in the recipe. Participants would have to disclose their recipes as part of the competition.
The final three competitors will be required to prepare their dish onsite on the day of judging and are allowed to have an assistant.
Registration forms are available at the Department of Agriculture and Ministry of Tourism.
Mr. Clarke explained that the challenge is in keeping with the department's mandate to work on the development of sustainable livelihoods.
